Studio Upgrade! ~ 8.7.16

A bit late getting to this, but in May I heard from the RAAC Claudia Mitchell Grant Fund that I’d received a grant for my submitted studio upgrade proposal. Wahoo! So part of these improvements , specifically, part of the cupboards, are made possible by this grant. In mid June, the grantees received their checks.

In addition to the much needed storage, which is underway, the other improvements this year will be : painting the studio floor, which is concrete and ugly.  Next year I hope to get the walls repainted, the lighting changed (very poor) and a window out to my glorious gardens installed. This  building used to be a garage and then was redone about 3/4 of the way  into my former husband Steven Kenny‘s studio. He wanted, understandably, minimal natural light, (to have better control over the light in his work) but it has been a bit of a man-cave: dark and sealed in. Very not me! While I don’t want too much light that will ruin my fabrics or objects, a bit of eastern and southeastern light will be welcome. And to see the plants, the birds, the butterflies and skies will be delightful! As well, we’re going to finish all the interior trim that never got done.

The largest cupboard here is nearly done except for a few tweaks, Along the wall under window will be an 8′ bookcase, then another , smaller cabinet , 7′ tall like the bigger one.

You can have a rare peek inside, at the quite nicely arranged supplies and objects:

Almost every bit of furniture except my tables and guest bed will be given away to friends in need of better storage in their studio or craft room. What a great gift that grant was, to activate more creative workspace improvements for several people! Love that.
